THE INS HERITAGE WALKATHON

Sponsor the INS Heritage Walkathon: Celebrating 30 years of INS

On Thursday 20th June INS staff, volunteers, and supporters will take on the INS Heritage Walkathon: a combined marathon-length walk through Hounslow and Richmond, to celebrate 30 years of service in the community, and to raise money to continue our vital work supporting adults living with a neurological condition, together with their family carers.

“There is now a place full of friendly faces that no longer see my struggles but just see me.”

Since its start at Kew Baptist Church in 1993, founded by physiotherapist Eleanor Kinnear, INS has stretched across Hounslow and Richmond to meet a growing, critical need for long-term rehabilitation and support for people living with a neurological condition.

The teams will walk ‘through our history’ with two routes through the boroughs to our venues at the Musical Museum in Brentford, Southville Community Centre in Feltham, Barnes Green Centre in Barnes, and completing the combined Marathon distance at our current headquarters in Twickenham.

30 Years of Neuro-Support

Sponsor our team for the INS Heritage Walkathon and help us to continue providing life long support to people living with a neurological condition and their families.

“I really appreciate the help I've been getting after my stroke. INS support their patients physically and mentally, the team are caring and understanding. It's like being in a family.”

INS is more than group therapies and rehabilitation; we offer a community for adults with neuro-disabilities and those who care for them, and a place where people are treated as individuals. Working closely with local authorities and organisations, we ensure that our service users are supported and advocated for at every stage of their journey.

If you’d like to support our work, please get in touch by emailing Emilia or Tracey at admin@ins.org.uk.

Kew Baptist Church, Kew

Founded in 1993 under the name Holistic Neurological Services by physiotherapist Ellie Kinnear, INS’ first official location was in Kew Baptist Church, on Alexandra Road in Kew. The first group for people with neurological conditions was funded by a grant from Sainsbury’s Good Neighbour Scheme. INS became a registered charity in 1999. The INS Heritage Walkathon will begin near this site.

Hampton Road, Twickenham

INS moved to its current main premises in 2009, officially opening in 2010. With two gym spaces, therapy rooms, and a therapy garden, the number of people INS supports grew from 200 to around 750 people today. The INS Heritage Walkathon will finish here.

Barnes Green Centre, Barnes

INS opened its first satellite location at Barnes Green Centre in 2021, co-locating with AGE UK Richmond and FISH, delivering a weekly neuro-exercise group. Click here to watch a video about neuro-exercise in Barnes.

Southville Community Centre, Feltham

INS opened its first Hounslow satellite in 2022, co-locating with AGE UK Hounslow to deliver services one day a week at Southville Community Centre. The satellite turned 2 years old in February this year, and hosts sports and exercise sessions, communication groups and speech and language therapy, peer support for clients and carers, and more. The Musical Museum, Brentford

INS opened its third satellite location in 2023, delivering services one afternoon a week at The Musical Museum in Brentford, to reach service users in Hounslow who may find it difficult to travel to Twickenham or Feltham. The INS Heritage Walkathon groups will walk together from our start in Kew to The Musical Museum, before splitting into two teams and walking through Hounslow or Richmond.
